Longjing village, a traditional Bouyei settlement with more than 500 years of history in Guiyang's Huaxi district, has embraced the idea of "culture shaping tourism and tourism promoting culture", writing a new chapter in its rural vitalization by integrating agriculture, culture, and tourism.
At the village's silver workshop, tourists arrive in small groups to try their hand at Bouyei silverwork and embroidery. As part of a broader shift in travel habits, visitors no longer want only to look and buy; they want to participate and create.
The nearby Xunyou Shier Huaxiang Workshop offers a quieter experience focused on emotional connection and cultural resonance. Guided by a fragrance master, visitors follow 12 traditional steps to make scented tablets and sachets, with many guests returning repeatedly.
In 2018, the village launched its "one hundred workshops in one village" plan; So far, 78 idle houses have been repurposed and 78 specialty workshops have been established, 26 of them dedicated to intangible cultural heritage.
The village's Bouyei traditions remain central to its appeal. The Liuyueliu festival, celebrated for over three centuries on the sixth day of the sixth month in the Chinese calendar, draws visitors eager to join the festivities. The Longjing village gala, held for more than two decades, has become a national demonstration site for Spring Festival celebrations.
By protecting its cultural resources and using them well, Longjing has turned rural tourism into a real engine for rural vitalization, helping more residents earn a living without leaving home.
The village has woven culture and tourism together in its alleys and workshops, turning Bouyei heritage into economic momentum. With today's rural vitalization, this centuries-old village is finding fresh energy.
