Sino-German Contemporary Art Exhibition opens in Guiyang's Huaxi district

The Sino-German Contemporary Art Exhibition opened at the Huaxi Contemporary Art Museum on June 28 in Huaxi district, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, marking the start of a cross-cultural artistic dialogue between the two countries.

The exhibition features works by 12 local Guizhou artists and five renowned German artists, spanning a variety of creative forms including oil painting, watercolor, and installations.

Wang Lan, a freelance painter who has lived in Berlin for over 30 years, serves as the German-side curator and organizer of the exhibition. A graduate of Guizhou Minzu University, she spoke with great passion about the event's intention: "I came from Guizhou and have been deeply engaged in painting in Germany for more than three decades. My long-held wish has been to build a bridge for artistic exchange between the two countries and to bring contemporary German art concepts back to Huaxi. I invited several renowned German artists to participate in this exhibition, and I also hope to see regular, sustained cross-border art exchange activities in the future."

Stefanie Herrmann, a Master of Arts graduate from the University of Göttingen in Germany, spoke highly of her experience in Huaxi district. She remarked that the district's unique landscapes are completely different from those in Germany and that the diverse local works on display in the gallery were deeply evocative. She felt the exhibition had built a spiritual bridge of connection, from which she has gained a great deal.

Liu Jian, vice-dean of the Art College of Guizhou University, gave the exhibition high praise, stating that the event transcends geographical and cultural boundaries, serving as a vivid practice of mutual learning and two-way integration between Eastern and Western cultures. It conveys the core artistic values of openness, inclusivity, sustained critical thinking, and boundless creativity.
