Huaxi selected as National Agricultural Modernization Demonstration Zone

Huaxi district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has been selected as a 2026 National Agricultural Modernization Demonstration Zone.

Located just 17 kilometers from downtown Guiyang, Huaxi serves as the city's southern gateway and a core suburban area. With its beautiful landscapes, rich culture, and thriving industries, the district is an important "vegetable basket" and "backyard garden" for Guiyang.

Since the start of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), Huaxi has utilized its suburban location advantages, established a development strategy for "modern mountain-based urban efficient agriculture", and promoted the construction of beautiful and harmonious villages. This rapid growth of urban leisure agriculture has laid a solid foundation for creating the demonstration zone.

The district has formed seven core competitive advantages: a convenient transportation network, a solid economic foundation, a stable supply capacity, a distinctive specialty industry system, significant processing potential, deep integration of agriculture, culture, and tourism, and strong scientific research support.

To steadily advance the construction of the demonstration zone, Huaxi will focus on consolidating production and supply guarantees, driving innovation through technology empowerment, upgrading the entire industrial chain to deliver greater value, cultivating new business models through agriculture-culture-tourism integration, and innovating systems and mechanisms for urban-rural integration.

The district will continue to strengthen support in organization, funding, technology, and land use, striving to create a "Huaxi model" of modern, efficient mountain-based urban agriculture. The goal is to explore replicable and scalable rural vitalization pathways for the mountainous regions of western China, increase agricultural efficiency, raise farmers' incomes, and enhance rural vitality.
