The Guiyang division of Guizhou Village Super League, also known as "cunchao", kicked off in Xiuwen county on Oct 18. Residents of Guiyang and nearby areas gathered to enjoy a grand rural sports and cultural festival that combined soccer competition, folk performances, and a lively food market.
The newly launched Guizhou cunchao covers all 88 counties, county-level cities and districts across the province. The tournament adopts a three-tier progression system – county (or county-level city/district) qualification matches, municipal (or prefecture-level) preliminaries, and provincial finals – with eleven-a-side soccer as the main competition format. The event will run until June 2026, featuring more than 2,000 matches throughout the season.
In the Guiyang division, the Xiuwen county qualification round will continue until Nov 16. Twelve teams representing various townships, towns and sub-districts of Xiuwen will compete every weekend, battling fiercely to advance, allowing locals to enjoy the thrill of soccer right at their doorstep.
On the opening day, a special market selling local products was also set up outside the Xiuwen County Sports Center. The market showcased a wide range of Xiuwen's signature specialties – from fresh fruits and vegetables to flavorful local delicacies.
Between soccer matches, locals shopped for authentic local products, savored local food, and enjoyed the festive atmosphere. This thoughtful addition not only enriched the public's sense of participation and satisfaction, but also turned cunchao into a vibrant link between sports, culture, and local consumption.
