A type of cellar-baked bread became popular online in March, attracting many tourists to Qiantao town in Huaxi district, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

The Baizhuang Qiantao project was launched in 2024 to stimulate the rural economy and enliven industries in Huaxi district. The project focuses on research, travel, and catering, particularly in Qiantao town's Machang village.

The village has preserved its authentic rural scenery, with the influx of tourists offering opportunities for residents to increase their incomes.

In 2024, 10,000 mu (666.67 hectares) of high standard farmland was built, ranking second in the city. 83,400 mu of grain was sown, with the highest yield in the city. The total output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery increased by 4.1 percent year-on-year. A national ecological farm was built. The scale of strawberry cultivation ranked first in the city, and the brand value of Huaxiaomei reached 492 million yuan ($67.51 million).

All of the villages have reached collective operating incomes of 200,000 yuan, with 22 surpassing 1 million yuan. The per capita disposable income growth rate of rural residents jumped to the third highest in the city.

Huaxi district will continue to develop special agricultural industries, improve product quality, promote agricultural product grading and classification, and increase agricultural added value.
