Huaxi stresses importance of seed quality

As the spring plowing and sowing work kicks off in Huaxi district, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, Huaxi is paying more attention to the quality of seeds.

To prepare the arrival of spring plowing season, Guizhou Jinnong Technology Co – a company in Huaxi – has stockpiled nearly 8.5 million kilograms of seeds from across the country and strictly monitored the quality of the seeds.

Meng Dengzhi, the director of warehousing, logistics, and processing at Guizhou Jinnong, explained that once the seeds enter the processing site, the company will conduct tests in accordance with national standards, mainly involving moisture content, purity, and germination rate. After passing quality inspection, the seeds move on to the packaging stage, during which random samples of each seed variety are rechecked, and only those meeting all the criteria are released onto the market.

Meng said that the selected and processed seeds will be sold to Guizhou and surrounding provinces. Farmers can scan the QR code on the seed packaging to trace the origin and batch number of the seeds and gain an understanding of their planting attributes.

In order to ensure that farmers can buy reliable seeds, the Huaxi bureau of agriculture and rural affairs has taken a number of measures to strengthen the supervision and inspection of the seed market and strictly control access to the market.

Currently, there are sufficient reserves of rice, corn seeds, and fertilizers and pesticides for spring farming in the district. The district has conducted several special law enforcement inspections in the seed market. At the same time, a group of highly-skilled agricultural technicians will be dispatched to the fields to provide technical guidance to farmers.
