The agriculture and rural bureau in Huaxi district of Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has launched an emergency supply guarantee mechanism to ensure vegetable supplies, in response to the new wave of the COVID-19 epidemic.

The bureau has organized local agricultural investment companies to buy and store vegetables from big producers, to increase the inventory of vegetables. It has mobilized farmers to coordinate their production and sales with local towns, and issued plans to expand existing vegetable cultivation areas by more than 33 hectares.

It has strengthened the distribution of vegetables outside Huaxi district by expanding support channels, boosting market connections and transportation guarantees.

In addition, the bureau has contacted vegetable suppliers inside and outside the province and supported local agricultural investment companies in their point-to-point purchases, to ensure the stability and sustainability of the vegetable supply.

Currently, the area in Huaxi given over to cultivation is more than 696 ha and 63.2 metric tons of vegetables can be marketed. The large-scale planting bases can supply 13.16 tons of vegetables every day.

An agricultural product storage center has been established in the Huaxi Chives Post-Harvest Processing Center in Qiantao township.

The facility can store about 360 tons of vegetables. So far, more than 60 tons of vegetables, including cabbages, radishes and onions, have been purchased and stored and all meet food safety standards.
