Farmers have been busy fertilizing fruit trees at a modern fruit and vegetable plantation in Dahong village of Gaopo township in Huaxi district, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

Dahong village was one of the first demonstration sites for rural vitalization in Guiyang. To create high-end organic agricultural products and integrate the development of agriculture, culture and tourism, Gaopo township began to build a modern high-quality fruit and vegetable plantation in the village in 2020.

"Dahong village has many mountains and little rain, so it is suitable for planting cherries. Cherry output is expected to reach 600 metric tons with a value of around 24 million yuan ($3.58 million) in 2025," said Chen Huasong, head of the plantation.

In addition, to reduce the daily management and maintenance costs of the plantation, Dahong village invested 1.5 million yuan in building irrigation and fertilization integrated equipment, reservoirs, and pipe networks to effectively deal with damage caused by wild animals and extreme weather.

In recent years, Gaopo township has optimized and adjusted its industrial structure, and continued to develop and expand its rural industries, increasing the number of villagers working in the village.

Gaopo is currently carrying out 14 rural vitalization projects with an investment of 20.65 million yuan.
