Huaxi district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has made full use of existing forest land resources to develop the under-forest edible fungi industry this year, with the aim of increasing farmers' incomes and developing the under-forest economy.

The district has carried out special investment promotion for key projects focusing on the under-forest edible fungi industry and developed leading enterprises, cooperative organizations, family farms and large planting and breeding households with market-oriented operation, and professional services.

It has also brought in Guizhou Meiweixian Agricultural Technology Development Co, which is building a rare edible fungi propagation base. The company has grown more than 66 hectares of under-forest bamboo fungi, which is expected to generate more than 40 million yuan ($5.99 million) in output.

The district has also strengthened cooperation with scientific research institutions such as Guizhou University, the Guizhou Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and the Guizhou Academy of Sciences, providing technical support and human resources for the under-forest edible fungi industry.

In addition, it has introduced and promoted new varieties and technologies of under-forest edible fungi cultivation, and expanded the scale of the under-forest edible fungi industry.

Huaxi is currently home to 80 ha of under-forest edible fungi demonstration planting areas and has boosted the surrounding area to carry out the breeding of rare edible fungi covering an area of over 666 ha.
