Huaxi's township benefits from agricultural, tourism growth

Gaopo township in Huaxi district, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has expanded its agricultural foundation and tourism in recent years by taking advantage of its ecological and geographical advantages. 

The township has invested 161 million yuan ($23.85 million) in the construction of a 107-hectare high-quality fruit and vegetable planting project, a 466-ha Ribes burejense plantation, and a 13-ha blueberry plantation, and has planted more than 33 ha of red rice.

"Starting in 2023, vegetable and fruit cultivation is expected to offer villagers dividends of 186,000 yuan and increase the annual collective revenue of the village by 67,600 yuan," said Wang Guangxu, top official of the township's Dahong village.

Gaopo township has also developed a rural homestay industry. So far, 23 mid-end accommodation businesses exist in the township. 

With breathtaking scenery in every season and 12 popular scenic spots, the township has become a top choice among tourists in Guiyang. 

In 2021, it received 265,000 tourist visits and its rural tourism revenue exceeded 16.38 million yuan, increasing incomes of rural households by an average of more than 6,000 yuan.
