Huaxi achieves strong development during 13th Five-Year Plan

Huaxi district in Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has achieved outstanding results during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20) and aims for high-quality development during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25).

In 2020, the district's gross domestic product (GDP) reached 63.71 billion yuan ($9.79 billion).

Over the past five years, all impoverished people in the district have gotten rid of poverty. Huaxi has built 27,100 mu (14,793.33 hectares) of high-standard farmland and implemented 92,000 mu of agricultural industrial restructuring.

The district has obtained 10,310 patent authorizations in total, and the comprehensive scientific and technological progress index has reached 93 percent.

During the five years, the total tourism revenue and the number of tourists received each maintained an average annual growth of about 20 percent.

The district also successfully built its first batch of all-for-one tourism demonstration zones, and Qingyan Ancient Town became the city's first national 5A-level tourist attraction.

In terms of environmental protection, the district's utilization rate of industrial solid waste and the safe disposal rate of hazardous waste reached 100 percent.

Also, it completed 20 shed renovation projects, implemented two old community renovations, and built several modern commercial and residential communities and commercial complexes.

Regarding education, Huaxi invested 1.04 billion yuan in building, renovating and expanding 54 kindergartens, compulsory education schools and high schools, adding 23,000 study positions.

A total of 311 million yuan in guarantee funds and various subsidies have been issued. A triple security system has also been established to ensure basic medical care, critical illness insurance and medical assistance.

During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Huaxi's GDP is expected to achieve the same annual growth rate as the city, with the per capita GDP targeted to reach 100,000 yuan.
