Huaxi District People's Congress opens yearly session

The sixth session of the 17th Huaxi District People's Congress opened on March 1 in Huaxi district, Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, with 180 deputies attending.

During the gathering, Yu Yang, deputy secretary of the Party committee and head of Huaxi district, delivered the government's work report for 2020, reviewed the progress made during the 13th Five Year Plan period (2016-20) and set goals for 2021 and the 14th Five Year Plan period (2021-25).

Yu said that in the past five years, the comprehensive strength of Huaxi has steadily improved. Achievements were also made in poverty alleviation, eco-development and the construction of an all-for-one cultural tourism innovation area.

According to the report, the district's gross regional production (GDP) reached 63.71 billion yuan ($9.86 billion) last year.

New targets for the district's development in 2021 were also announced at the congress, covering rural revitalization, tourism industrialization, green development, project construction and optimizing public services.

The report also said during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), the average annual growth rate of Huaxi's GDP is expected to stay the same as that of the city, and the per capita GDP will reach about 100,000 yuan.

Deputies also examined the report on the implementation of the 2020 national economic and social development plan released by Huaxi's government, as well as the 2021 national economic and social development draft plan.
